Barack Obama's Immigration Policy Change
This video talks about Barrack Obama’s immigration policy change.
While looking for fact checking on this topic, I
came across this quote on politifact.com
“In June 2012, Obama signed an executive order
allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United
States as children to obtain work permits. Under the change, the Department of
Homeland Security no longer initiates the deportation of illegal immigrants who
came to the country before age 16, have lived here for at least five years, and
are in school, are high school graduates or are military veterans in good
standing. The immigrants must also be not more than 30 and have clean criminal
records.” (Politifact, Obama doesnt..., 2012)
This quote in itself proves the facts that Colbert
talks about are indeed TRUTH.

Motivation- The motivation of this video was to shead light on the policy changes of immigration Obama is making.
Evidence- Evidence of this is backed up at poliifact.com when in June 2012, Obama signed an executive order allowig hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to remain in the USA on work permits.
Logic- To let viewers know of the changesthat are going to be taking place in the immigration, work force and society as a whole.
Left out- Maybe talk more about what type of immigrants are here. Yes most are from Mexico but what other immigrants does this law change involve?
Alabama's Mgrant Workers
Alabama tries to free up farm jobs for Americans by strengthening immigration laws, but there's a small hiccup in the plan. Also, in the video, Stephen Colbert talks about the Job shortage in Georgia and its impact on the farm owners. While I went to fact check some of these claims on Politifact.org, I came across these interesting quotes.
“The report calculated both the direct (to the
farmers) and indirect (to the rest of us) impacts of the labor shortage to be $391
million. That’s the "close to $400 million" that Flemming got from
the AJC article he scanned on his way to the rally.” (Politifact, Georgia, 2012)
When Georgia labor leader Charlie Flemming was asked
about this, he said, “"It was a significant hit for our state," he
said." This law has cost the state a lot of money. It’s hurt and is
continuing to hurt."
All in all, I can conclude that the claims that
Stephen Colbert talks about in regards to the freeing up of jobs by
strengthened immigration laws are TRUTH. PolitiFact does a good job of finding
the facts for these issues.

Motivation-Stephen's motivation is to bring light on
to the immigration law change in the South.
Evidence- Politifact does a good job of proving the
truth in the points that Stephen makes.
Logic- The logic behind this is to show that when
jobs free up by immigration laws, immigrants will leave an impact on farm
workers.
Left out- Not much was left out. For the most part
the video did a good job of showing the facts.
Migrant Worker Pt. 2
This video has a few different parts to it. The
first part talks mainly about Stephen and his testimony before congress about
immigration and its policies. I don’t plan on talking about this part here
because I use that segment in my next video. What I do want to point out is the
second part of this video. Stephen Colbert, along with his film crew, travels
out to the fields and works “a day in the life of a migrant worker.” The reason
this is an issue? The immigration bill that was passed was House bill 87 in May
of 2011.
Politifact says that Georgia GOP gubernatorial
candidate Nathan Deal promised to crack down on illegal immigration. In fact,
this was proved TRUTH by politifact.org. “On Friday, Gov. Deal signed House
Bill 87. The hotly debated legislation creates requirements for many Georgia
businesses to ensure new hires are eligible to work in the United States. It
also empowers police to investigate the immigration status of certain
suspects.” (Politifact, Deal signs immigration bill, 2011)
Put the Facts together and you will see that they
are cracking down on immigration and that Stephen Colbert isn’t just doing all
these immigration shows for humor. He actually has logic and truth behind his
television shows.
Source- Comedy Central, Stephen Colbert
Motivation- To show what a day in the life of a migrant farm worker is like.
Evidence- Politfact backed up the fact that a new deal was signed to ensure hiring of immigrant farm workers.
Logic- The logic behind this was to present the facts in a comical manner to show the viewer what life is actually like for migrant farm workers.
Left out- Nothing was left out. Great video with funny parts to show the true facts.
